About
Who Am I?

Hi! My name is Marie Tolteca, and I am currently pursuing a Master of Environmental Data Science at the University of California, Santa Barbara. My interests sit at the intersection of data science, visualization, environmental analytics, and storytelling through data. I enjoy building projects that combine technical workflows with creative communication and design.
Work & Technical Experience
My work focuses on developing reproducible data science workflows using Python, R, SQL, GIS, and remote sensing tools. I have experience working with environmental datasets, statistical modeling, data visualization, and spatial analysis through both academic and research-based projects.
Some of my recent work includes:
- Developing a SQL database project analyzing WWE superstar engagement and streaming platform performance
- Building API-based visual analytics projects using RStudio and Python
- Conducting eddy covariance analysis using a Gamma Generalized Linear Model (GLM) to evaluate environmental drivers influencing evapotranspiration
- Working with geospatial and remote sensing datasets through collaborations involving NASA Ames Research Center and environmental monitoring research
I am especially interested in finding ways to translate complex datasets into clear and effective visual communication.

GIS Maps & Visualization
One of my favorite aspects of data science is visualization. I enjoy creating maps, dashboards, and infographic-style graphics that make data more accessible and engaging. GIS and spatial analysis allow me to combine technical analysis with creativity, especially when working with environmental and geographic datasets.
I frequently work with: - ArcGIS Pro - Remote sensing imagery - Spatial data visualization - Cartographic design - Infographic refinement and visual storytelling

Music & Creative Interests
Outside of data science, I enjoy listening to music, editing visuals, photography, and exploring creative design workflows. Music and sports have both influenced how I approach storytelling and presentation in my projects. I enjoy blending technical analysis with aesthetics to create projects that are both informative and visually engaging.

Current Goals
Right now, I am continuing to expand my background in machine learning, statistical modeling, and data engineering workflows. I am especially interested in opportunities that allow me to combine analytics, visualization, and real-world problem solving across environmental science, sports, and emerging data-driven industries. If you know of any positions, please feel free to send them my way :)
